What is Microneedling RF?

RF microneedling makes use of radiofrequency energy – hence the “RF.” It works by generating tiny wounds in the skin with microneedles (the same as traditional microneedling) but the difference is that it also administers bi-polar radiofrequency energy that generates gentle heat under the surface of the skin. This process contracts the collagen matrix in the deep layers of the skin and also stimulates new production through your body’s natural wound-healing response. The result is a visible difference in your skin’s tone, texture, and youthfulness over time.

What’s the Difference?
Microneedling RF vs Microneedling

Both options make use of a technique called collagen induction therapy – by piercing the skin and generating micro-wounds, microneedling can jumpstart your skin’s collagen production and achieve drastic improvement in concerns like texture and appearance. Traditional microneedling stops there, however – RF microneedling is simply a more advanced version of the traditional method.

Microneedling has evolved into becoming a revolutionary treatment for rejuvenating skin and improving its texture. This procedure’s impressive results and minimal downtime are what really draw people to it. If you’ve heard of this treatment, you may be wondering what areas of the body and face you can get treated. In order to understand all the ways you can benefit from microneedling, however, you must first understand how it works.

Microneedling is a form of collagen induction therapy, a treatment that is designed to promote skin rejuvenation. Needles are used to gently create small punctures across the top layer of the skin, which stimulates the body to create new collagen and elastin. This system contains either 25 or 49 fine needles in the very tip of its handpiece, the depths of which can be adjusted to lie anywhere between 0.5 and 3.0 millimeters. At its lowest setting, 0.5 millimeters, the needles penetrate the stratum corneum, or the outermost layer of the skin. Your body then reacts to this as a wound and therefore dispatches fibroblasts to produce more collagen in the affected area. Basically, the punctures trick your skin into thinking it has been wounded, which causes the skin to thicken and see a great improvement in texture and tone. Microneedling is also popularly used to reduce pore size and rapidly heal acne scars.

When most people think of Microneedling, they instantly think of the face being the main area being treated. Luckily, this collagen-induction treatment can actually be used on many areas of the body, relieving issues like stretch marks, loose skin, hyperpigmentation, and scarring. A few other areas you could treat include:

  • Face & neck/décolletage
  • Chest
  • Stomach
  • Hips & thighs
  • Backs of hands

Microneedling RF Benefits
Microneedling RF vs Microneedling

Fewer Sessions
Because microneedling RF uses advanced techniques, it’s more potent than traditional microneedling and thus requires fewer sessions. This means you’ll achieve results faster and more effectively.

Greater Versatility
Microneedling RF can address a wider array of concerns, including mild skin laxity, acne scars, sun damage, aging signs, visible pores, and stretch marks. It can also be used on virtually any area of the body.

Shorter Downtime
Microneedling can cause more unwanted damage to the surface of the skin, requiring greater attention to recovery afterward. Because microneedling RF relies more on radiofrequency energy, it’s much gentler on the skin and requires virtually no downtime.

Customizable Depth
Microneedling RF allows your skincare technician to precisely adjust many different factors of your treatment, including the depth of penetration. This means you can more effectively address deep-rooted concerns for targeted treatment.

Better Results
Because of the added radiofrequency energy, microneedling RF simply produces better results. It’s more effective at stimulating collagen production as well as contracting existing collagen for better skin tightening and a reduction in a variety of skin concerns.
